This package includes four modules:

Forest Practices Rules and Regulations: An introduction of Forest Practices Rules and Regulations for family forest landowners. Topics covered include permit requirements, riparian buffers, wetland buffers, reforestation, road maintenance, archaeological resources, and alternate plans. The module also includes sources of additional information and local DNR contact information.

Introduction to Cultural and Historical Resources: Addresses cultural and historical resources that small forest landowners in Washington may find on their property, how to recognize these resources, and where to find out more information about them.

Threatened and Endangered Species in Western Washington: Describes threatened and endangered species, as well as other species of concern, that are found in Western Washington forests and require special protections under the Washington State Forest Practices Rules. The module describes the basic protections needed, how to address this topic in a forest stewardship plan, and where to go to get more information.

Washington State Land and Timber Taxes: Covers current use taxation programs that can reduce property taxes for forest landowners. These programs include Designated Forest Land, Open Space Timber, and the Public Benefits Rating System (PBRS). The module also introduces two state taxes related to timber harvest: forest excise taxes and business and occupy (B&O) taxes.
